Profile Galeri Apik
Our journey to continue collecting artworks from various sources has now sparked another desire to establish an idealistic project in a form of art community sanctuary in the capital city of Indonesia to open many opportunities as possible for talented artists that we knew and select, not only for their aesthetic and artistic skills but also their good character and spirit to move forward.
Such desire has gotten us strong will, until it leads us to establish Galeri Apik as of September 20, 2009 with initial idea to accommodate only up to 30 selected artworks every half-semester. Our team then went to every exhibition, art fair and biennale. Afterwards continued to visit every major city famous for art, not handycraft, and true talented artists. Based on our encounter with those artists, we realized then that private galleries and museum also played a significant role in building their continuous spirit to create and conclude each artworks.
During our weekends, we also visited each artworks preview in various auction house. They are also possess a variety of interesting viewpoints and principle in evaluating, not only valuing, a quality of work in art, as like the appreciation of beauty and distinct charm, profounding us with special feature of high level of satisfaction and admiration, in catering self-actualism of culture or sometime, certain people begun their collection of artworks as one method to brightening his/her soul. All of these motives are legitimate because each would have not developed punctually and promptly without the stimulation of other. In fact, in the beginning administration of President Soekarno, famouse old master like Affandi or Lee Man Fong could not enjoyed this kind of multi-facet supports and their extrinsic value of art was low (in a period when Indonesian people still worried of daily meals, buying luxurious art is often neglected). Nowadays, Indonesia has the most active auction houses than any other country within Asia, Indonesia has more than 10,000 available artists throughout archipelago, Indonesia also has more art collectors and patrons than any other country within South East Asian region, some even started their journey before reaching 10-years old. We admit that Galeri Apik is founded a little bit late but it was not temporarily operated during the big art boom of 2007 however it is still on time to cater new demands of old and existing collectors or ordinary demands of young and new collectors to nurture their main principle of becoming the Artworks Patron.
